Elizabeth is the head make-up artist for The Art of Living. Here, we asked her a few questions about musicals, the show, and (of course) make-up!

Q: What is your favorite thing about working on a musical?

A: Working on a musical speaks volumes to me because it’s always been my favorite type of entertainment. I’ve loved singing since a very young age, so combining music and acting together…doesn’t get any better than that! Especially all the other aspects of art involved, like costumes and of course make-up… seeing all types of characters transform and come to life is amazing.

Q: What’s your favorite show?

A: My favorite show would be a tie between the Broadway musical Rock of Ages, which I saw live in New York City a few years ago… as well as the movie/musical Moulin Rouge. I love the alternative and bohemian styles. The extreme colorful make-up of the 80s and the dark, elegant yet dramatic makeup of cabaret. The adaptations of all the songs, not to mention the story behind them, both have always been my favorite.

Q: How did you get involved with The Art of Living?

A: I actually saw The Art of Living in Plattsburgh last year at the CCC Theatre, and I loved it right away! So when I was asked to participate in the grand debut of the play this year, I gladly accepted.

Q: Which character’s makeup are you most excited about designing?

A: I’m definitely looking forward to doing all the brilliant characters’ makeup, but Sophie Manon will be a lot of fun to bring to life!

Q: What’s the biggest myth about make-up or make-up artists?

A: I think the biggest myth or misconception about make-up in general, is that it exists to hide or camouflage flaws, to cover up what we don’t like or to change completely who we are. I’ve always seen make-up as a form of art, a way to accentuate what someone already has, a way to bring out the best features and make people shine!

Elizabeth has always had a love of the arts, whether it’s writing, playing guitar, singing, painting, fashion or make-up; she has always immersed herself in creativity. Elizabeth was the lead singer of a Montreal-based rock band for several years, and also went on to do a solo acoustic project. More recently, she has broadened her abilities and passion for make-up, building her inventory with all the latest must-have cosmetic collections and items!
